CASCADE HOUSE

“Go, pause, assess, and repeat”

Cascade House is a multi-stage renovation of a humble 1950s triple fronted brick house for young family. Completed in four stages over six years, this alteration addition explores crafting a sanctuary for a growing family by combining humble materials and attention to details.

Focal to Cascade House is harmonising the architecture to the site topography with minimal disturbance or removal of the earth, increase the northerly aspect, and creating connection to the gardens.

Cascading planes of step, plinth and pit dissolve the level changes internally and externally, creating a layered connection and providing functional ‘soft’ edges.

Cascade House breathes new life to the 1950s post war home in its stride to creating a sanctuary for a growing family with humble materiality on a restraint budget.
